Vice President JD Vance urged Americans to be patient as food and housing costs remain high nearly a year into the Trump administration’s tenure and as Democrats raise affordability concerns ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

During a speech at Uline warehouse in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Vance said the Trump administration is "making progress" in bringing costs down for the American people, like grocery and energy prices. He noted that while rent prices are “still too high,” costs have come down in recent months.

Vance blamed the Biden administration for the affordability crisis facing Americans.

The vice president claimed that the Trump administration has attempted to give back money that Americans had lost due to high grocery and rent prices under the previous administration, but that it will take time to feel relief.

“The average American family is $1,000 richer than they were 11 months ago. Now, if you have $3,000 taken out of your pocket by the Biden administration. Of course, you're still struggling to get by,” Vance said. “Rome was not built in a day… We do believe that if we keep on making the right decisions, we keep on investing in the United States of America, we are going to find that the American citizens can afford a good life in their country.”
