Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Uruguay is set to close 2025 with one of the strongest performances its beef industry has recorded in recent years, driven by higher export volumes, firmer prices and a more diversified market structure.

According to a report by Uruguay's National Meat Institute, the country was expected to export about 548,000 metric tons of beef in 2025, generating nearly $2.7 billion in revenue. The average export price will exceed $5,000 per ton for the first time, marking a record level for Uruguay and a 19% increase from the previous year.

The record goes beyond beef. Total exports from the livestock agroindustrial sector, which includes other meats and byproducts, are expected to reach about $3.328 billion in 2025, 4% above the previous peak recorded in 2022.

Live cattle exports will add about $400 million, with shipments approaching 400,000 head, the highest foreign currency revenue ever recorded for that segment. Domestic market sales are estimated at an additional $1 billion, bringing total sector revenue to roughly $4.7 billion.
