Italian exports fell by 3% in October compared to September while imports rose 0.3%, Istat said on Tuesday.

Exports fell by 3.2% for non-EU countries and by 2.8% for EU countries, while imports rose by 0.9% for the EU and declined by 0.5% for non-EU countries, the national statistics agency said.

Istat said exports grew by 2.3% with respect to October 2024 and imports by were up by 3.4% It said Italian exports to the United States were up 9.7% in October with respect to the same month last year, but added that many sectors, such as food, metals and cars, were not benefiting from the recovery after the US imposed tariffs on EU goods earlier in the year Istat said the upswing was concentrated in a limited number of sectors, including pharmaceuticals and machinery.

It said Italy registered a trade surplus of 4.156 billion euros in October, a figure that climbs to 7.801billion if energy is excluded.
