Singer Jubilant Sykes' son is being held without bail in a Southern California detention center after his arrest on suspicion of Sykes' fatal stabbing.
Following a Dec. 11 court appearance on a felony murder charge, 31-year-old Micah Curtis Sykes' bail amount changed from $4 million to no bail. He was arrested on Dec. 9, a day after first responders found 71-year-old Jubilant Sykes "with critical injuries consistent with a stabbing" in a Santa Monica home and declared him dead at the scene.
According to ABC7, Los Angeles County prosecutors requested the amendment to Micah Sykes' bail. Deputy District Attorney Cesar Rodriguez reportedly told Judge Theresa R. McGonigle that Sykes was not being appropriately medicated for a schizophrenia diagnosis, the news station reported.
The deputy district attorney also told the judge that Sykes' mother, Cecelia, witnessed the alleged attack, ABC7 reported, and McGonigle issued a protective order that prevents him from contacting her.
Meanwhile, Sykes' legal team requested to delay his arraignment until 2026. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate records, his next court appearance in downtown LA will be on Feb. 11.
