Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is planning to announce that the state is hiring Susan Monarez, the former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who was fired by the White House after less than a month in the job after clashing with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over vaccine policy, for a consulting role in the California Department of Public Health, according to The New York Times.
