Dec. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. military has attacked three boats in the eastern Pacific, killing eight people, amid the Trump administration's use of military strikes against vessels allegedly transporting drugs into the United States.

U.S. Southern Command said in a statement that three people were killed in the first vessel struck, two people in the second and three in the third.

A 47-second video clip of the strikes was included in the statement posted on X, showing aerial shots of boats on the ocean before they explode into flames. While two of the boats appeared to be moving across the water at a high speed when attacked, a third boat was shown seemingly stationary.

U.S. Southern Command alleged that all three boats were operated by one of eight cartels that President Donald Trump has designated as terrorist organizations. No proof was made public.
