An unarmed man charged at a shooter, disarming him as he carried out a terrorist attack against an Australian Jewish community over the weekend, authorities said, and the moment was captured on camera.
In the video, taken Sunday, Dec. 14 at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, the man charges at a gunman from the side as the assailant fires at people in front of him.
Once the man was able to wrestle the weapon away from the shooter, he held him at gunpoint as the shooter slowly walked away. Another man eventually approached the shooter, throwing something at him.
President Donald Trump spoke at a Christmas reception at the White House and called the shooting an “antisemitic attack.” The president said he wanted to pay his respects and acknowledged man who wrestled away the gun in the video.
“A very, very brave person, actually, who went and attacked frontally, one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives,” Trump said. “A very brave person who’s right now in the hospital, pretty seriously wounded. Great respect to that man that did that.”
