Providence Deputy Police Chief Tim O'Hara told media in a press briefing that they knew that the shooter was male, and that he was dressed all in black.
Both O'Hara and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said that law enforcement was actively searching for the suspect, who left the Barus and Holley engineering building onto Hope Street.
