Ponduru Khadi, which was appreciated by Mahatma Gandhi 100 years ago, got a rare recognition from the Government of India. Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued an order, providing Geographical Indication tag for Khadi products of Ponduru, located 20 km away from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu shared his happiness with the people of Srikakulam district over GI tagging for Khadi products on the social media platform ‘X’.

Mr. Rammohan Naidu had appealed in the parliament to grant GI tag to Ponduru Khadi. He hoped that the products would have more demand hereafter with the GI tagging facility.
GI tagging is an intellectual property right which would ensure special recognition for the products which originate from a special place. .
