Delhi University has announced that it will establish a Centre for Odia Studies under the Faculty of Arts to expand the scope of discussion and study on Odia language, literature, culture, civilisation, and customs.

The decision was taken in an Executive Council meeting on Friday.

The Centre will offer a two-year MA in Odia, and further modalities for a one-year postgraduate programme will be determined later based on need.

“The Centre also aims to offer certificate, diploma, and postgraduate programs and a generic elective in Odia Studies at the undergraduate level through the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022, in order to popularise the rich Odia language, literature, and culture in a relevant perspective,” the university said in a statement.

The Centre will explore the historical evolution of Odia language, literature, art, architecture, dance, traditions, philosophical practices, reform movements, folklore, and oral traditions.
