Nearly a dozen states across the northern U.S. may have an opportunity to observe the northern lights on Friday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

NOAA forecast a Kp index of four on a scale of nine for Friday night, suggesting the northern lights will be “brighter” and more active for those in the right areas.

Less active auroral activity is expected through the weekend, according to NOAA’s three-day forecast, with a maximum Kp index of just over three and two forecast for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
