Carissa Codel has been called a lot nasty things by viewers of the Missouri news show she anchors. But she’s found a hilarious way to clap back.

The 26-year-old reporter, who appears on the morning show "Ozarks First" for KOLR 10 and FOX 49 in Springfield and Branson, Missouri, began reading rude online comments about her appearance on camera and posting them to social media earlier this year. At the time, she was just hoping to bolster her online presence by showing her personality.

She had no idea the videos would gain millions of views from all around the world – and resonate with so many others.

"I kind of brainstormed with my team here and we were like, 'Well, let's do it in the news voice. Let's put it in the studio. Let's produce it up a little bit,'" Codel told USA TODAY. "And somehow that has just taken off. It's still wild to me."
