LOUISVILLE, KY — The parent of a Kentucky State University student has been charged in connection with an on-campus shooting that left one student dead and another critically injured, police said Dec. 10.
Jacob Lee Bard, 48, was formally charged with murder and first-degree assault, according to the Frankfort Police Department. The Evansville Courier & Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported earlier in the day that jail records showed Bard had been arrested on preliminary charges.
Bard was on the campus of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, on Dec. 9 and opened fire at the two victims near a student residence hall, police said. Two current students suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital by Frankfort Fire and EMS.

One student, who was identified as 19-year-old De’Jon Darrell Fox, Jr., of Indianapolis, died from his injuries at the hospital, according to police. The other student remains in critical condition.
