The 33rd meeting of the International Theological Commission between the Catholic Church and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church was held in Kottayam. The two-day session, held at the Devalokam Catholicate Palace, headquarters of the Orthodox Church, drew to a close on Wednesday
Representing the Vatican were Fr. Hyacinthe Destivelle, along with Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt of the Kottayam Archdiocese, Archbishop Thomas Mar Koorilos of the Tiruvalla Archdiocese of the Syro-Malankara Church, Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt of the Pala Diocese, Bishop Selvister Ponnumuthan of the Punalur Latin Diocese, Fr. Augustine Kadayapparambil, Fr. Philip Nelpurappuram, and Fr. Jacob Thekkeparambil.
Representing the Orthodox Church were Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos, secretary of the episcopal synod, Yuhanon Mar Demetrios, Joseph Mar Dionysius, Geevarghese Mar Barnabas, and others.
Members of the Theological Commission also met with the head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews III.
As part of the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, the theological dimensions of the creed were discussed during the meeting. The commission paid homage to the late Pope Francis and extended greetings to the newly elected head of the global Catholic Church Pope Leo XIV.
