In an attempt to find a solution to weak signals near Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara caused by jammers installed inside the prison, Home Minister G. Parameswara said that he will meet major telecom service providers on December 22.

He was responding to a question raised by M. Krishnappa of BJP in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

“For the sake of people who live in the vicinity, the jammers cannot be made defunct. There are four major service providers in the area – Airtel, BSNL, Vi, and Jio. We are in discussions with them to come up with a technical solution to the problem,” said the Minister.

Noting that so far four meetings have been held with the service providers, Dr. Parameswara said that the next meeting will be held on December 22, soon after the Assembly sessions. He added that the government was also looking into a similar issue reported from Mangaluru.

So far, 19 jammers have been installed at the prison, significantly hampering mobile network in the region and leading to protests from residents in the locality.
