Ten Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and sectoral federations have decided to call a countrywide direct action, including a general strike in February 2026, against the Union government’s decision to implement the four Labour Codes. The CTUs said in a statement here on Tuesday that the date of the strike will be finalised in a meeting scheduled on December 22.
The CTUs said struggles will continue till the four Labour Codes are withdrawn. The statement added that there was widespread immediate response in resistance against the Labour Codes and that on November 26, thousands of workers participated in the protest action. “The CTUs will intensify the campaign among the working class against the Labour Codes, exposing the false propaganda of the government and corporate media serving the employer classes and defy any effort to impose the Codes on the working class,” the statement said, adding that they will coordinate with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha in the struggle against the Seeds Bill and Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025.
“There is unprecedented false propaganda on the so called ‘benefits’ of the Labour Codes to the workers including advertisements in mass scale and paid news and articles supporting them which shows the panic among the government administration and the ruling classes. There is total chaos prevailing in labour departments and courts,” they said.
