Retired professor and writer Narendra Rai Derla on Tuesday said that Kanakadasa and Narayana Guru were saints who stood for social equality and spiritual upliftment, thereby bringing people together despite their differences.
He was delivering a talk on ‘Kanakadasa and Brahmasri Narayana Guru’s Thoughts’ at a programme organised by the Kanakadasa Research Center, Mangalore University, and Shri Gokarnanatheshwara PU College, Mangaluru, here.
Mr. Derla highlighted the significance of Kanakadasa’s “Kanakana Kindi” and Narayana Guru’s “Kannadi” (mirror), symbolising the importance of self-reflection and understanding one’s true nature. He noted that Narayana Guru’s initiatives, such as opening libraries and establishing gardens within temple premises, showcased his emphasis on education and nature.
Centre coordinator Dhananjaya Kumble spoke about the importance of saints in Indian society and highlighted their role in promoting equality.
Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Institutions’ correspondent Vasanth Karandoor inaugurated the event.
