After the meeting of three out of five All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLAs in Bihar with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, speculation is rife in political circles that they might change political loyalties soon. In the just concluded Assembly polls for which results were announced on November 14, AIMIM had won five seats out of the 27 contested in Bihar. Two years after the 2020 State Assembly election, four of the five AIMIM MLAs had switched over to the Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in June 2022.

However, all three AIMIM MLAs — State party president Akhtarul Iman who is AIMIM MLA from Amour (Purnea district), Murshid Alam from Jokihat (Araria) and Sarwar Ali from Kochadhaman (Kishanganj district) — who had met Mr. Kumar in Patna on Monday (December 8, 2025) said they had gone to meet the Chief Minister to apprise him of concerns regarding their respective constituencies. The two other party MLAs are Mohammad Tauseef Alam from Bahadurganj (Kishanganj district) and Ghulam Sarwar from Baisi (Purnea district) seats.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is my political master (rajnaitik guru) but party chief Asaduddin Owaisi is my ideal,” Mr. Alam said, while adding that they had gone to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar “to raise concerns over some local issues of their constituencies”. “He (Nitish Kumar) is the Chief Minister of the State and if I’ve to request for some work to be done in my constituency, I’ve to approach him,” the Jokihat lawmaker pointed out.
