A federal agency that the Trump administration tried to eliminate has come back swinging, announcing Thursday that it has reinstated all its grants to libraries and library organizations across the country.
Trump originally issued an order in March to shut down the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), resulting in the mass termination of federal grants. After 21 states sued the administration over the decision, a federal court ruled last month that the government cannot dismantle the IMLS.
The American Library Association, which has its own ongoing suit challenging Trump's actions, said that restoring federal grants allows libraries to resume services vital to their communities.
