West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday (December 4, 2025) said that had her government not gone ahead with Special Intensive Revision (SIR) then President rule would have been imposed in the State.

“If we had not allowed the SIR, they would have imposed President’s rule without voting. Do you understand Amit Shah’s trick? We are not that stupid, Babumoshai, Godibhai! We will do it, we will fight. We will win and show it,” Ms. Banerjee said while addressing a public meeting in State’s Murshidabad district.

The remarks by the Chief Minister assume significance as the Trinamool Congress which had initially opposed SIR have reconciled with the revision of voter list. The Chief Minister urged people to not to be afraid of SIR and submit their documents.

The Chief Minister that she will not allow National Register of Citizens (NRC) or any detention camp in the State. “Luckily I was born in Birbhum! Otherwise they would have called me a Bangladeshi too. Listen, I will not allow NRC to be done in Bengal. Even if they cut my throat, I will not allow any detention camp to be built here, I will not expel anyone,” she said..
