House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) swore in Rep. Matt Van Epps (R-Tenn.) just two days after his victory in a special election -- a quick turnaround after Johnson waited 50 days to swear in Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.).

Johnson claimed he couldn't make Grijalva a member because the House was out of session during a six-week government shutdown. The delay also gave President Donald Trump more time to try to convince certain Republicans to withdraw support for a discharge petition on a bill to force disclosure of the government's files on Jeffrey Epstein.

Grijalva called it "fascinating" how she was treated differently than Van Epps.
