It all sounds very familiar: A progressive has defeated a former governor, who resigned due to scandal, and won a major mayoral contest.
Except this time it happened on the other side of the Hudson River.
Jim Solomon, a Jersey City councilmember, defeated former Gov. Jim McGreevey in a runoff to win the city's mayoral contest. While the race was officially nonpartisan, Solomon was aligned with a group of progressives who were challenging the city's establishment (those closely linked with New Jersey's powerful county-based political machines).
