Former European Union high representative for foreign affairs and security policy and former Italian foreign minister Federica Mogherini said Wednesday she had clarified her position in relation to a Brussels corruption probe in which she has been charged with fraud over academy recruitment as head of the College of Europe.

"Regarding the process of establishing the EU Diplomatic Academy, I have clarified my position with the investigators acting on behalf of the European Public Prosecutor's Office," said the 52-year-oldfrom Rome, a member of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD).

"In its long tradition, the Academy has always applied and will continue to apply the highest standards of integrity and fairness," she said.

"For three years, the EU Diplomatic Academy has offered its participants the highest quality of teaching.

"I have full confidence in the judicial system and am confident that the correctness of the College's actions will be verified.
