Fake news poses a threat to India’s democracy, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday (December 3, 2025), emphasising the need for strict action with reference to social media platforms, and against misinformation and AI-generated deepfakes. He stressed the need for urgency in framing stronger rules and taking firm action.The issue of social media and fake news is a very serious matter, Mr. Vaishnaw said in the Lok Sabha. Social media was being used to create certain ecosystems that did not wish to follow the Constitution of India or comply with the laws enacted by Parliament, he said.
