No, Ole Miss did not throw Lane Kiffin's clothes on the sidewalk after the coach decided to leave Oxford for Baton Rouge, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke to USA TODAY Sports.
A rack of Kiffin's clothes was spotted on the sidewalk outside Ole Miss football's facility the morning of Monday, Dec. 1, prior to Kiffin's departure for LSU. The social media post with the caption "Ole Miss even put Kiffin's clothes on the street" went viral.
“Our folks were cleaning his office out," Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter told Sam Hutchens of The Clarion Ledger. "That picture got taken. There was just a rack of clothes that was there on the sidewalk outside of his office while they were waiting to load it into a vehicle. It wasn’t like we threw it out of the sidewalk for him to come pick up or whatever. We were cleaning it out and putting it in a vehicle to take to his house. I think that picture got a little bit taken out of context."
Kiffin was introduced as LSU's football coach on Monday, Dec. 1, ending one of the most successful runs in Ole Miss history. Ole Miss, which just completed its first 11-win regular season, is expected to reach the College Football Playoff and host a playoff game. Kiffin will not coach Ole Miss during the postseason.
