Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem took to social media to push for a sweeping travel ban on Monday, just one day after President Donald Trump claimed that his administration’s pause on asylum decisions could last “a long time.”In a post on X, Noem wrote that she had met with Trump, who recommended a permanent pause on migration “from all Third World Countries” following an ambush attack on U.S. National Guard members in Washington, D.C., last week. The suspect in the attack was an Afghan immigrant who entered the U.S. in 2021 as part of a Biden-era resettlement program and was granted asylum in April 2025 by the Trump administration.“I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies,” Noem wrote. “Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS.”She concluded, “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”It’s unclear which countries would be targeted by such a ban and how extensive it would be.Trump later reshared her post on his Truth Social platform.I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that's been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies. Canada and Mexico.”“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom” is a wild statement while referring to a country build on genocide and chattel slavery. https://t.co/5DEJKhhoBE— Nina Turner (@ninaturner) December 2, 2025Well, this is pretty much exhibit number one re: unconstitutional animus in any lawsuit against an impending travel ban. https://t.co/DomY1AMr9y— Aaron Reichlin-Melnick (@ReichlinMelnick) December 2, 2025Probably not the smartest course of action considering we depend on global trade and have international allies but do you, white nationalists. https://t.co/tM4Td8VC1L— Wajahat Ali (@WajahatAli) December 2, 2025Close
