White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt decided to bring back one of Donald Trump’s pet phrases from his first term in office, only to be mocked on social media by people amused she didn’t notice the irony of her plans.
On Monday, Leavitt said on social media that the administration is launching a “Media Offender of the Week” section on the White House website to call out “fake news,” which, you might remember, is a phrase Trump has been known to use to describe accurate journalism about him that he doesn’t like.
Leavitt made things worse for herself when she made a comment to reporters about all “the fake news that we see pumped out of this building on a day to day basis.”
Considering that Trump is a habitual liar, many people on social media found Leavitt’s rant against “fake news” dripping with irony.
Not surprisingly, Leavitt’s gaffe was mocked on social media.
