ALKHOBAR: Every week, women in Alkhobar gather to paint, unwind, and connect through art. The initiative, called Salam (Arabic for “Peace”), was founded by 25-year-old Hend Al-Mousa, who wanted to create a peaceful space for self-expression.
Held every weekend at a small studio, the workshop welcomes women of all ages. It is open to the public, with registration through Instagram and a small participation fee that covers materials and refreshments.
“Let me begin with the meaning of the name ‘Salam,’” Al-Mousa told Arab News. “I decided to open a space that reflects the peace I want to live by, a space where everyone can breathe freely, be themselves, and express who they are without any external pressures. Salam is a safe space for everyone.”
Al-Mousa said choosing each month’s theme is a deeply personal process as it often reflects a part of her personality.
“I love sensing the change of seasons — summer, winter, autumn, and spring — and enjoying annual, personal, and global celebrations,” she added.
