President Donald Trump on Thursday night said he will “permanently pause migration” from all “Third World Countries” in a lengthy social media post, as he leaned on Wednesday’s shooting in Washington, D.C., where the suspect has been identified as an Afghan national, to push for an expanded crackdown on immigration.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at immigrants in the U.S. and claimed without evidence that the U.S.’s “Immigration Policy has eroded” the gains the country has made through technological progress.

The president then declared that he will “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover.”
