US President Donald Trump said his administration will reexamine every immigrant from Afghanistan, as the suspected shooter of two National Guard members in Washington, DC, was from the country, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
“We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here, or add benefit to our country,” Trump said in a televised address from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, on Wednesday.
“If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them," he said.
On Wednesday, the day before the US national holiday of Thanksgiving, a gunman opened fire on National Guard members in Washington, DC, critically injuring two, in what Muriel Bowser, the mayor, called a targeted attack. Jeffery Carroll, executive assistant chief of the Metropolitan Police, described the shooter as a "lone gunman".
The suspect was identified as an Afghan national who had worked with the US government, including the CIA, in Afghanistan.
