Supreme Court hearing on SIR updates

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Thursday (November 27, 2025) argued in the Supreme Court that the power of the Election Commission of India (ECI) — according to the Representation of the People Act (ROPA) — to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is limited to a constituency, not en masse. The Supreme Court is hearing pleas challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various States in India, since Wednesday (November 26, 2025).

Sengottaiyan, former Tamil Nadu Minister expelled from AIADMK, joins Vijay’s TVK

Former AIADMK veteran and nine-time MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan, on Thursday (November 27, 2025), joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor Vijay, a day after resigning as Gobichettipalayam MLA. He was expelled from the AIADMK last month. Mr. Sengottaiyan, who arrived at Mr. Vijay’s party office in Panaiyur near Chennai with his supporters, has been appointed the organisation secretary for four districts — Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and the Nilgiris.
