Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora said that 1,416 non-citizens staying illegally in the State have been deported since January 2021.

The deported were among 32,207 people identified as foreigners who entered Assam illegally between 2021 and October 2025, he told the 126 member State Assembly on Wednesday (November 26, 2025).

In a written reply to a question from Congress MLA Abdur Rahim Ahmed, the Minister provided a year wise break up of detection and deportation of “illegal immigrants”.

According to the data, the number of such foreigners increased from 6,304 in 2021 to 8,790 in 2022 before decreasing consistently to 4,290 in 2025 so far.

“Under legal provisions, only the Foreigners’ Tribunals can officially declare a person as a foreigner in Assam, after which higher courts may be approached if the verdict is contested,” Mr. Bora said.
