Issues within the District Congress Committee (DCC) over seat-sharing in East Eleri panchayat escalated on Tuesday after DCC vice-president James Panthammakkal resigned from the post. He announced his decision at a press conference held at the Kasaragod Press Club.
Mr. Panthammakkal accused DCC president P.K. Faisal of ‘buying 18 seats’ in East Eleri and claimed that his actions would ‘destroy the party’.
He further alleged that the scuffle that broke out at the DCC office during seat-sharing discussions was orchestrated. Mr. James said that despite writing to All India Congress Committee general secretary Deepa Dasmunshi about the matter, no action was taken.

Meanwhile, Mr. Faisal dismissed the charges as baseless. He said Mr. Panthammakkal had become a ‘headache for the party’. He added that he would bring the matter to the attention of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.
