Premier Giorgia Meloni blasted gender-day violence in a message for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on Tuesday.

"Violence against women is an act against freedom.

Everyone's," Meloni said in a post on X.

"(It is) an intolerable phenomenon that continues to strike and must be fought relentlessly.

"In recent years, we have enacted highly significant laws, toughened penalties, and strengthened the tools available, such as the "red code" (mechanism to fast-track cases of gender-based violence) and prevention measures.
