Amid reports of a large number of people trying to cross into Bangladesh due to fears related to SIR, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose visited the Hakimpur border outpost in Swarupnagar, located in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, on Monday (November 24, 2025).
SIR 2.0: All about enumeration form, draft roll, appeal against exclusion
The Governor reached the border area on Monday evening (November 24, 2025) and interacted with Border Security Force (BSF) officials guarding the border. The Governor is likely to visit border areas of Murshidabad on Tuesday (November 25, 2025).
Speaking to media persons, the Governor had said that there are reports of exodus of people from the India-Bangladesh border and there are several interpretations of that. “Before I make my own assessment of the situation, I want to go to the field and assess the situation, so that I can make my mind,” the Governor said.
Dr. Bose added that the SIR is a “crucial and important” exercise being undertaken by the Election Commission of India.
