Uber and Lyft's features, allowing women to prioritize female drivers for safety, are now at the center of class-action lawsuits. Male drivers claim these policies are discriminatory, unfairly reduce their earnings, and violate anti-discrimination laws, creating a legal battle over gender-based ride preferences.
Uber and Lyft offer features that let women prioritize riding with other women. But now male drivers have filed class-action lawsuits claiming the policies discriminate against them and reduce their earnings potential.
The features were developed after years of harassment and assault allegations against both companies. Both tools are designed to make women feel safer by giving them more control over who is in the car with them. Female passengers can prioritize matching with female drivers, and women drivers can prioritize picking up female riders.
