Reggae icon Jimmy Cliff has passed away due to a seizure and pneumonia. He was 81.

The Grammy-winning artist's death was confirmed in a statement posted by his family on his Instagram page on Monday, Nov. 24.

"I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him. To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated each and every fan for their love," his family wrote.

Cliff is hailed as one of Jamaica's cultural icons, alongside Bob Marley. He is best known for his hits "Wonderful World, Beautiful People," and "I Can See Clearly Now." In his career, he has won two Grammy Awards, including best reggae album for "Rebirth."

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, being touted as being "instrumental in spreading reggae beyond Jamaica."
