Fox News’ Trey Gowdy poked fun at himself on Thursday as he leapt to Donald Trump’s defense amid widespread condemnation of the president’s attacks on a group of Democratic lawmakers.

Trump melted down over a video in which Democratic veterans in Congress urged service members to disobey unlawful orders.

In a series of Truth Social posts, the president accused them of “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR” that is “punishable by death,” adding: “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand.”

Gowdy, a GOP former South Carolina representative, downplayed the comments.

“I’m sure he meant after a trial by your peers — a jury trial by your peers — and after you have been found guilty,” he told anchor Bret Baier.
