Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy drew mockery for suggesting that airline passengers should smarten up.

Appearing on Fox Business, Duffy promoted a new campaign to bring “civility” back to air travel by suggesting the stresses could be eased if people would “be nice, say please, say thank you,” adding, “Bringing civility back, I think, enhances the travel experience for everybody.”

The former reality TV personality, who once appeared naked on a show, went on to say: “Sometimes you just have to ask people, ‘Hey, let’s maybe go back to an era where we didn’t wear our pajamas to the airport.’ We actually might dress up a little bit.”

Duffy also encouraged travelers to help each other: “And if someone needs help putting their luggage up in the overhead bin, help them out.”

While many agreed with the general call for politeness, critics called the Cabinet member’s “civility” line hypocritical given President Donald Trump’s frequent hateful rhetoric.
