ABU DHABI: The country qualifier rounds for professional athletes in the purple, brown and black belt divisions across all weight categories kicked off on Thursday at the 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

The event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
The day’s action saw athletes from around the world compete to secure their spots in the main brackets and finals. Only two athletes per country can advance in each weight category if they are competing at the same belt level.
The finals for the purple and brown belts will be held on Friday, while the black belt finals are on Saturday.
