Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Drone attacks are a new wrinkle in 21st-century warfare and terrorist attacks that require defensive preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a Washington state conference.
The Washington National Guard on Nov. 5 hosted more than 100 federal, state and local government leaders for a conference dubbed the Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems Summit at Camp Murray in Renton, Wash.
"If you think about where the world was on Sept. 10th. [2001], we are at a very similar place, Washington National Guard Maj. Gen.Gent Welsh told attendees.
"This isn't about the World Cup," Welsh said. "This is about protecting America."
