Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Amazon MGM Studios has announced a new television series based on Stargate is in development.
The series will be written and executive produced by Stargate veteran Martin Gero, who also serves as showrunner. The new series will stream on Prime Video, Amazon announced on Wednesday.
Gero was an executive producer on the series Stargate: Atlantis and also worked on Blindspot and Keep Breathing.
Gero will be joined by executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, along with Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich.
Emmerich directed the original Stargate film in 1994 that kicked off the military sci-fi franchise. Kurt Russell and James Spader star in that film.
