SEOUL, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Police raided the offices of South Korean telecom operator KT in Seoul and nearby areas Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into the company's recent hacking incident.
Some 20 police officers participated in the search and seizure operation, as lawmakers have suspected of KT trying to conceal evidence and submit fabricated documents related to the data breach.
In August, it was reported that servers belonging to South Korean government agencies and private corporations, including KT, may have been compromised. KT denied the allegations.
However, lawmakers raised suspicions that KT intentionally destroyed the server in question, which prompted the government to launch a formal inquiry. The Science Ministry said early this month that KT submitted false information and failed to report key data.
Concerns grew further after some subscribers of KT's mobile telephony services experienced unauthorized micro-payment fraud with combined losses of more than $150,000.
