Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The spirit of classic role-playing games and Saturday morning cartoons lives on in Demonschool, a new retro-style, life sim tactics game from developer Necrosoft Games and publisher Ysbryd Games.
Demonschool from top to bottom feels like a giant love letter to classic Persona and Shin Megami Tensei titles, as you live the life of a college student that spends their days getting closer to teammates, learning new techniques and of course, battling ghoulish enemies from the demon world.
Players take on the role of Faye, a spunky go-getter who is just as excited to fight baddies as she is to help out a friend. Faye is the last in a line of demon hunters and arrives at Hemsk College on a remote island to stop a prophesied demon invasion that will end the world.
Faye recruits a large cast of colorful characters to stop the apocalypse, including goth-in-denial photographer Namako, rational film buff Knute and himbo fighter with a heart of gold Destin, along with many others throughout the game.
The turn-based tactics gameplay has battles play out on grids where, as Necrosoft Games describes, "motion equals action." The key to winning battles involves moving Faye and her allies into the right positions to take advantage of their unique abilities, almost like in a chess game.
