Videos showing two trains running on the same track near Gotlam in Vizianagaram district, taken by passengers and circulated on social media, caused confusion and concern among the public on Wednesday.

Passengers recorded videos of a passenger train following a goods train and circulated it on social media, falsely claiming that the trains were travelling on the same track in opposite directions and narrowly avoided a collision, just in time due to the alertness of the loco pilots of both trains.

An official spokesperson from the railways said: “The section is an ‘auto signal section,’ and trains will run one after the other as per protocol. There is nothing unusual about it.” They warned that action would be initiated against those spreading false information.
