Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Britain's M15 spy service agency said Chinese spies have allegedly been attempting to "recruit" and "cultivate" British politicians, among others, on the networking site LinkedIn.
A newly issued M15 espionage alert warned that Chinese actors were utilizing LinkedIn to "conduct outreach at scale" on behalf of China's security service agency, Britain's House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle wrote Tuesday to lawmakers.
"Their aim is to collect information and lay the groundwork for long-term relationships, using professional networking sites, recruitment agents and consultants acting on their behalf," said Hoyle.
According to Hoyle, the M15 alert was issued due to "targeted and widespread" activity.
