The Thiruvananthapuram Rural police have instituted a probe into a complaint that a 16-year-old boy from Vembayam was allegedly persuaded to join the Islamic State by his mother and stepfather.

The Venjaramoodu police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) based on the complaint.

According to preliminary findings, the boy’s mother, originally from Pathanamthitta, converted to Islam after marrying a man from Vembayam. The complaint claims that after the marriage, the mother and her second husband allegedly coerced the boy, who is her son from a previous marriage, into becoming involved with the banned terror group.

The complaint also stated that while the mother and stepfather exposed the boy to radicalising content, including videos, aimed to influence his beliefs while the family were residing in the United Kingdom.
