Nov. 18 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump promised to make everyday items more affordable, in a speech Monday night to McDonald's fast food franchise owners, saying "nobody has done what we've done in terms of pricing."

The president called Americans "damn lucky" as he touted his 10 months in office in a campaign-style speech that blamed his predecessor -- former President Joe Biden -- for inflation that has led to lingering high prices.

"Now we have normal inflation," Trump said. "We're going to get it a little bit lower, frankly. We have it almost at the sweet spot. And prices are coming down on different things."

Under Biden, inflation hit a high of 9.1%. While inflation dropped to 3% last month, the economy and high prices have remained one of the top issues for much of the United States, as evidenced by this month's elections.
