Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The United States imposed visa restrictions against Nicaraguan citizens accused of facilitating irregular immigration into the United States on Monday, amid the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration.
The number of people blacklisted and their identities were not made public. The State Department statement said those barred entry to the United States include owners, executives and senior officials of transportation companies, travel agencies and tour operators accused of providing services to assist non-citizens gaining illegal entry into the United States.
"Investigations indicate the entities these individuals represent facilitated travel through Nicaragua, enabled by the Nicaraguan dictatorship's permissive-by-design migration policies that destabilize the region and push illegal immigration to the United States," State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Thomas Pigott said in a statement.
"The Department is revoking currently valid visas and imposing other restrictions to ensure these individuals cannot enter the United States."
