Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An Indiana homeowner has been charged in the shooting death of a 32-year-old house cleaner who went to the wrong house 12 days ago in suburban Indianapolis.
Curt Andersen, 62, of Whitestown, faces one count of voluntary manslaughter in Boone County, about 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis, Prosecutor Kent Eastwood said at a news conference Monday.
"We cannot allow emotion to guide our decisions," Eastwood said. "Our duty is to examine the facts, and apply the law fairly and equally and ensure that justice is served without bias or influence. That is the only way the law can truly be just."
Eastwood said his office decided to bring the Level 1 felony because the shooting didn't meet the requirements for protection under Indiana's "stand your ground law" to use deadly force to prevent serious bodily injury. It was passed in 2006 as an expansion of the 1977 Castle Doctrine law in Indiana.
Thirty-eight states have laws involving "stand your ground."
